In the year 2010, LNJ Bhilwara Group constituted Bhilwara Natya Puraskar to promote and to inspire Hindi theatre under the guidance of Shri L. N. Jhunjhunwala.   Besides being a veteran entrepreneur and a successful businessman, Shri Jhunjhunwala, the Chairman - Emeritus of LNJ Bhilwara Group has always taken a special interest in music, Drama Literature and Chess.  Long ago in 1987, he motivated Shri Gautam Ghosh to make a documentary on Rajasthan and its indigenous culture and tradition.  Titled “The land of Sand Dunes”. The documentary won India’s highest award “golden lotus given by the then President of India.

Under the patronage of Shri Jhunjhunwala the famous director Shri Bapi Bose had directed a play on the life of Ramkrishna Paramahansa and Swami Vivekanand titled Partham Purusha”.  The play was titled as the best production of the year and was also awarded as the best play by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. As drama and theatre are very close to the heart of Shri Jhunjhunwala, he decided to give it an impetus through the Bhilwara Natya Puraskar by forming a committee which included Shri Rajendra Bagrodia a great drama lover and Prof Bharat Gupt, the eminent theater theorist from Delhi University.  The committee decided to give award every year to two outstanding theartre productions in Hindi, preferably of original and fresh plays written in Hindi, or of any Indian language, but translated into Hindi Plays original to all native Indian languages written in ancient medieval or modern times are also welcomed.

The Award is for not only the written script of the play but for the production as a whole and will be given to a team on all counts such direction acting etc that constitute a dramatic performance. The winner will get Rs. Two Lakhs with citation and trophy and the runner up award will be Rs. One Lakh citation and trophy.
